I am a journalist and a dancer. I tell stories through words and through dance. In this blog I combine these two great passions of mine, the love for dance and the love of words. I believe that words and dance both have power because they enable us to tell stories - and stories can change the world. Stories can make us listen, think and reflect. Stories can make us see things from another perspective. Mikhail Baryshnikov said, "I found that dance, music, and literature is how I made sense of the world... it pushed me to think of things bigger than life’s daily routines... to think beyond what is immediate or convenient." The power of stories told through words is often inhibited because we do not all speak the same language. But dance is a universal language that can communicate across boundaries. I agree with Isadora Duncan, who said, "Movements are as eloquent as words." But perhaps even more so, because if a picture is worth a thousand words, then how many words could a moving picture be worth? "Dance is communication," Martha Graham said, "and so the great challenge is to speak clearly, beautifully, and with inevitability." On this site, I will share my stories about dance, as well as pictures, videos, articles and quotes that inspire me. I hope that you will also find something here to inspire, entertain, educate or empower you. In the words of Voltaire: Let us read and let us dance!
